The governor of Santiago del Estero, Gerardo Zamora, met with Argentina's Minister of the Interior, Diego Santilli. Zamora, who will step down as governor on December 10th to take his seat as a senator, emphasized the importance of sincere dialogue and seeking consensus for the country's progress. He highlighted that during the meeting, he stressed to Santilli the importance of the national budget passing, while also urging efforts to build consensus on necessary amendments. Following the meeting, Zamora confirmed that ten northern provinces have signed a joint document requesting a formal meeting with President Javier Milei. The focus of the discussion also centered on the distribution of tax revenue and funding for strategic infrastructure projects, such as Mercosur roadways. Minister Santilli is on a federal tour aimed at securing governors' support for the 2026 budget and the libertarian administration's planned congressional reforms.

"We have resolved to advance on a common agenda and to dialogue with the Government; we are going to request a meeting," Zamora summarized the atmosphere of the encounter. Zamora was one of the governors who attended the meeting at the Casa Rosada convened by Milei following the October 26th election victory. He and political leader Carlos Rovira control a bloc of four deputies and two senators, which the government also wants to secure support from for upcoming reforms. The meeting in Santiago del Estero was part of Santilli's federal tour to guarantee support for the 2026 budget and the reforms.
